Day 1: Monday 14t of March
05:58
Most
students arrived the weekend before the 14th of March and got to
enjoy the city before the project activities started. Before going to Spain me
and my group members made a schedule that we printed out on a flyer for all the
project members to take with them to Spain. This is the flyer and as you can
see it shows exactly what activities we did, where and when.
The first
activity of the week was an inspiring presentation by Martin Schirmer, one of
the founders of Iberia sports. Iberia Sports is a
licensed travel agency and official agent of FC Barcelona. They provide travel
packages for training camps, tournaments & sport competitions, end of the
season trips and school trips related to sport. The presentation was given
by one of the founders and their Dutch intern, Rick, who has also studied IBMS
at the Rotterdam Business School. The students found the presentation to be
very inspiring and motivating. To see how a relatively new startup company can
already achieve such success. Everyone got to ask questions about the company,
doing business in Spain and all other things that interested the students. Martin
Schirmer was so kind to hand out free entrance tickets to the hottest club in Barcelona
and other places. The presentation was
held at the top floor if the beautiful Cortes de Ingles which is the leading luxury
department store in Barcelona. The students and sponsors got to enjoy breakfast
and with some typical Spanish treats before the presentation started. After the
presentation there was enough time for personal conversation with Martin
and the intern. I myself had a nice conversation with Rick and asked him
everything I wanted to know. He told me how he got to where he is today, what
living and studying in Barcelona is like and he gave me some tips. It was an
inspiring experience and a great start of the week.
After the presentation we had some hours of free time till and went to the
famous street of la rambla and enjoy the sun, shopped around and had lunch. At the
beginning of la rambla we met up with two guides with whom we did a historical
hunt through the old city center. The groups were divided into two and the
guides made a game out of the history hunt so the group with most correct
answers would win. The history hunt taught us a lot about Barcelona, its
culture, arts, religion and history in general. We visited many known and but
also unknown and beautiful historical sights. It helped us to see places we as
tourist would never know of. After fun history hunt was finished we were done
for the day. But of course, the night was still young and most groups filled
their time well. All by all, the first day was inspirational, educational and
fun!
